| Question: How do I stop wanting to be an actress? Posted: 19 Sep 2016 03:17 PM PDT If it really is acting that you love - you don't have to give that up! Yes, a professional acting career is extremely challenging, competitive and unstable but you don't have to attempt a professional acting career to act. Many people are involved in community theater - it's a great creative outlet, a way to perform a character and a chance to make friends. You can try contacting local film schools and ask how they find actors and check those sources. You can start your own improv group and perform locally. You can create your own shot films or web series. You even take acting classes and workshops just because you love the craft of acting and want to get better at it plus classes are an opportunity to act. There is a lot you can do with acting even if you don't pursue a professional career. The thing is (and I'm not saying this is you) - but some people are more interested in escaping "real life" and are enamored with the idea of being someone else rather then really interested in the work of acting. They fantasize about being other characters rather then wanting to read plays and research scripts and put the work into developing a character. They equate acting with escapism and don't really understand the craft of acting or the work that goes into it. Sometimes for those people role playing becomes a good way to escape - cosplay and the like can be a lot fun. And sometimes people have very challenging life issues and they create a fantasy of what acting is and think if they were an actor then they would be happy. (Again, not saying this is you just a concept you should understand.). It's similar people who think that their life will be perfect if only they could loose some weight or something. But the same life issues would follow you regardless of your career choice and being an actor doesn't make those issues go away. These people need to learn realistic ways to cope with the stresses and situations they have in life rather then running away from them. Sometimes therapy can help with that. The thing is, you don't have to stop wanting to be an actor - you just have to be self-aware and recognize what it really is yih want and why you think acting will give that to you and then find realistic ways to try to accomplish that. Good luck |
| Question: Should I try out for my school musical? Posted: 19 Sep 2016 02:35 PM PDT Best Answer: That's awesome! I personally think you should try out! It may be hard, but I bet you could do it. Get outside your comfort zone! :-) I've tried out for many musicals before, and a lot of times I didn't get a huge role. But along the way, I realized that even if you don't get a huge role, you still are extremely important in The musical. What would they do without you? One of my friends was in one of my lead musicals and she didn't get any lines or anything. She just had to walk across the stage. But on the final performance, one of the other actors forgot to put something on stage to queue my line. She just happened to catch it right in time during the musical, and walked out onto the stage and make something up real quick. Like improv. So my point is, every role is important. So, I think you're going to do great and there's no need to be anxious! One thing I learned in acting is that you always have to know that the audience is on your side! Good luck, and I'm praying for you! <3 Source(s): Asker's rating
