It probably has something to do with being a patriarchal society.<p>of, relating to, or characteristic of a system of society or government controlled by men.<br/>"a patriarchal society"</p><p>Most of the world outside a few countries are considered to be matriarchal at least in their society if not their government. The Us is a patriarchal society as the father's family name is used for their children in general... you usually have your father's last name.
