Question: How many acting/theatre classes would I need to take to be a little better at acting for a hobby?

Posted: 30 Sep 2014 10:19 PM PDT

Nice try. How about none!

11 plays and you wanna do better in acting? If you think you're going to be a professional actress, then forget it! You need to take acting classes and it takes years to become a professional actress. Agents aren't going to except school plays or community theaters. You need professional training like soap operas actors. Acting agents are looking for REAL actors not lame school plays. You might as well forget it. You think you know about being a professional actor but really you don't. Stop acting like it's going to happen. You're not going to make it. It's not going to happen!

Classical dramatic acting duets for 2 girls?

Any suggestions are appreciated! I can't find any scripts that work! Must be before 1900. Also can be scripts that date back before 1900 from another language and translated into modern English. Thank you!

Question: I'm 14 and wanting to start an acting career?

Posted: 30 Sep 2014 07:16 PM PDT

If you've never actually tried acting at all, how on earth do you know if a) you have any talent, b) you would have the capability to learn everything you need to know and c) if the life of an actor would suit you?

Practising on your own not only doesn't count at all, but will probably work against you. All you've been doing is teaching yourself bad habits. You can't possibly assess your own strengths and weaknesses, your progress or your mistakes.

Until you've been attending a really good acting school for a couple of years and performed with a community theatre for a few performances, you won't even know if you can act.

Train for an 'ordinary' job - preferably one you can work self-employed, alongside acting. Then, if you DO want to pursue acting as a career in the future, you'll have a way to earn a living. Very few actors ever get more than 2 or 3 weeks' paid acting work a year.

But as for starting an acting career soon - without many years of training and experience, it's simply not going to happen. If you started all that right now, it would be at least another 5 to 8 years before you'd be ready for an agent or auditions on a professional level.

It's an incredibly competitive career to choose.

I'm a new youtuber. help!?

I just started with youtube and I have a butt load of plans for my channel, and for viewers. One of my plans is to gather voice actors and actresses for a small series. Whether this will become a reality or not, I don't know.
What I need to know is how you arrange this type of thing. Like what are good editing programs to get people's attention? and How do you exchange lines and voice clips if the actors live somewhere else?
Any advice helps! thanks!

Question: Struggles when playing the guitar?

Posted: 30 Sep 2014 08:30 PM PDT

Ello. Just started playing for a first time a couple weeks ago and I've been having the same problems over and over when I play.
I own an acoustic, and I'm trying to learn never too late by 3dg. And I'll start off good now hitting most of the notes perfectly, I guess cuz I'm fresh. And the more I play the more it seems I mess up notes and I'll try to repeat all over to get it right and it's just a train wreck lol.

Any tips on how to get better and not make this mistake?

It's like a bug trying to move in a spider's webs but it keeps getting pulled in tighter.

Question: (MALE) I need 2 contrasting monologues!?

Hello,

After high school, I would like to attend a college for acting. I have found one that I like. Now I need 2 contrasting monologues! I need your help. I am looking for 2 monologues for a male in the age range of 18-25. I'm hoping that someone can respond who truly knows what 2 good contrasting monologues look like. They can be contemporary or classical, although, I'd prefer contemporary. Thanks for the help!

Question: Should I get a multi-effect pedal like a Boss GT-100(or GT-10), or should I just get several analog effect pedals for guitar?

Posted: 30 Sep 2014 07:36 PM PDT

Ok, I am looking to upgrade my gear. So far, I only have a distortion pedal, a volume pedal, and a delay pedal. I would love to have some setups from some of my fave guitarists. However, I have seen them, for the most part, use a multi-effect pedal. There are tutorials on the web that show their setup though, but not sure if that is the best practice. My budget for pedals right now, will be at $350. I play on a music group, but since it is on a stage, I don't want to rely on amp effects, since we have had countless issues if we try to mic the amp up. So, given my budget, what would be the best way to go? Any suggestions are welcome.

By the way, the style I am aiming for is from Hillsong United, which is like a contemporary "rock-ish" style.

Cheers and thank you :)

Should I do track or dance team? (for high school)?

I'm absolutely terrible at making decisions. Today I had to pick a winter sport and I couldn't decide so I signed up for both. I am only allowed to do one sport and plus, my schedule is too packed for me to do more than one more activity. No, these activities do not effect my grade. I really want awards when I graduate and scholarships. (I can get scholarships from doing other things too.) I danced my whole life, :jazz, tap, ballet, and hip-hop. i stopped around 5 grade but still did dance at my school. I just started to do track conditioning in like like late August and I really like it as well. I can't choose and I need to pick one. Please just help me pick one.

Question: Is 15 too late to start dancing?

Posted: 30 Sep 2014 10:54 AM PDT

Lately I've gotten really into dance, how long would it take me to become as advanced as others?
I'm naturally pretty good in general, I can do pirouettes and I took gymnastics for 8 years (quit 2 years ago)
I can still do back-handsprings, back-walkovers, front-walkovers, etc.
I'm still flexible
I could still do my splits if I started to stretch more regularly again
I really would like to do acro, lyrical, hip-hop, and/or ballet (not all at once haha).

thanks!

Question: Mintchips49, is the Balanchine method of ballet distinct from Vaganova? Is the Balanchine method classical ballet?

Posted: 30 Sep 2014 07:42 AM PDT

No. Balanchine is called the father of Neoclassical ballet and it is basically "American" ballet invented by him. It is very far from Vaganova and not considered "Classical" but Neoclassical Ballet.

CPYB full time is essentially Balanchine but not the SI program which is a mix.

The only thing that makes a dance "lyrical" is that it uses the lyrics of a song for the impetus for it's choreography over using the music. That being said at times it can be somewhat similar to concert contemporary dance in terms of the movements as it relies on similar dance techniques, but just not relying on the lyrics of the song for how it is choreographed.
Neither my daughter nor I have ever taken lyrical classes as that isn't a professional dance genre and not taught in professional training/schools.

Regarding your other question...BDC is going to be a a higher standard of training due to more professional teachers and commercial dancers teaching the classes. Without strong ballet, you may be lost there as I believe you have a year or under in ballet. Ninth Street Dance is purely a recreational dance school and the level of training will not be as good but you could probably take lyrical there much sooner because of that.
* Advanced beginner Lyrical at BDC would be for dancers with at least 5-8 years of prior ballet training. Intermediate for 8-10 years. They are not meant to be taken alone but as an adjunct to ballet training as it will just be lyrical choreography essentially for dancers with strong dance technique and not really technique training.

Question: What does "love you more!!!" Mean to you,? Do you say it to everyone, why or why not?

Posted: 30 Sep 2014 07:28 AM PDT

To me it would be a term of affection involving upping a sentiment one step further, though both conveying equal affection. Like one person saying "I have zillion Dollars" and another replying "I have two" - zillion involves infinity, there is no such thing as an infinity that is twice as big, for that matter, money supply is quite finite, both statements are simply hyperbole, both implying considerable amount, both potentially being the same amount.

And no, I do not use such affectionate terms of endearment routinely, and given my solitary path in life, additionally lack the opportunity to do so. And the one opportunity I have, I feel bit burned out or distracted at the moment to really experience that level of "love" - still, hopefully, the amount I'm capable of at the moment is taken in its context of where I'm at in life... but I digress.

Question: A question to anyone here who's been through a really good time but then a hard time?

Posted: 30 Sep 2014 07:08 AM PDT

Childhood into early young adulthood, would have been a relative "good time" overall, the "good time" which preceded a nightmare lasting equally as long. I don't think I got through it on my own, a greater force than me sustained me when I was in self-sabotaging mode for the most part. In retrospect, I know I had little to nothing to do with it, but, also in hindsight, I abandoned my God yet He did not abandon me. To Him I must give credit, albeit at the time my abandonment was not an attempt to arm-twist Him into doing my bidding, rather a genuine departure, like in the story of the Prodigal Son.

"After the hard time" - it's kind of strange to be aware the world's turmoils can erupt into wars and economic disasters that would have significant detrimental effects upon my life, yet at the same time be somehow at peace with this prospect. It's like, albeit I "need things" to live, life is no longer about "such and other things". I may even come down with a terminal cancer tomorrow, pass on long before WWIII may erupt "next year", and again, that sense of inner peace. My point being, in response to Q#2 - I no longer perceive life as "good, bad, mix" when it pertains to externals such as wealth, poverty, peace, war, etc... for all these externals can vanish per various circumstances such as wars and economic upheavals, and if they do, per His grace, the "inner abundance" shall remain.

An example of something good in my life now - leisurely strolls through tree-lined neighbourhood streets, reflecting and marveling over flowers growing to the more profound matters (an example I often use for illustrative purposes). An example of something "good" in my former life - hoarding, devouring, boasting... all of which I now regard as unpalatable, even quite disgusting. Which is to say, that aforementioned "good life" that preceded the "hard time", in retrospect wasn't all that good to begin with, it was poison that I'm grateful for having been almost completely flushed out of my system, though some toxins still linger perhaps.

We each get through hardship if we do as Churchill put it - "When walking through hell, keep on walking". Taking it one step at a time, one day at a time, and when need be even one minute at a time if sufficiently unbearable. It leads to endurance, and, a higher plateau in life, with a higher vantage point that makes all the formerly-desirable turmoil and ugliness bellow seem so disgusting as to no longer desire it.

Question: Why don't some people ever evolve?

Posted: 30 Sep 2014 06:52 AM PDT

You mean "evolve" into, say, featherless winged gryphons? :)

I take it you mean "maturity/intellectually-wise" or such. Life for the most part are train tracks, each individual is, mainly through conditioning, locked upon a particular path. Then come "switches", those opportunities when presented with a potentially-life improving situation, and the balance to choose which set of tracks to take - current, or the new. If current direction, then, more of the same ensues, perhaps with more educational experiences. Sometimes, people get so sick of their path, it dawns on them "this is not desirable", sick enough to switch to the other set of tracks when the next opportunity to do so presents itself. Analogies aside - some people "never evolve" per lack of opportunities, when those who know better keep their valuable lessons to themselves instead of illuminating dark lives of others... Change, even after "illumination" may not happen any time soon, may even take place in the final moments of the journey, but, change does come to such individuals.

Plainly stated - people change when they are ready to, per enough information and experience as it takes to be willing to "choose the other path with the next fork in life". As such, those who, as per your question, "don't change" - they are not ready, they may not know of better alternatives, they may even have become apathetic and no longer care.

Question: What would the world be like if there's no money in the world and everything is all free ?

Posted: 30 Sep 2014 06:26 AM PDT

In an ideal "commune" society, like some so-called "flower children" experimented with in the 1960's, everything is actually free, but, such economic arrangement involving sharing of all goods and services each individual contributes, comes with a particular lifestyle - living within one's own means, minimalism, not biting off more of the proverbial pie at the expense of others going somewhat hungry.

Any healthy society functions properly when there is balance - in western capitalist democracies, the functional arrangement involves fueling one's cravings for material consumption while also bridling individual's lusts for material goods via wage corresponding to the individual's "prudent effort, ingenuity, etc...". In aforementioned ideal (non-Marxist) "communism", the "bridling" is not tied to external restraints such as individual's remunerated productivity, rather, internal restraint of taking only what one needs regardless of how much the same individual contributes (which is to say - one individual may be a prolific contributor to the commune, while his less able neighbor not as much, yet both take from the collective's pooled offerings what they need, perhaps a reasonable bit extra when there is abundance but not in any obscene excess).

Your example of taking all the DVD's you want is a type of imbalance that would ruin an ideal commune-way of life due to your implied lack of internal philosophy-based restraint, hence, an external restraint is imposed via wage-limit which varies with your contributions - be your contributions prudent effort where workload is light and financial rewards high, or hard menial labour with much work and little compensation, they constitute "contributions".

What would the world be like per your headline question? An ideal commune. But, per your subsequent "DVD example", would turn into an unsustainable nightmare where people would bite off not only more than they can chew, but would even reach down their neighbour's throats into their stomach in order to pull out the share they bit off... (to use a mangled analogy). People have the society for which they are ready, our culture, and more to the point, the masses subscribing to such dysfunctional culture, makes it impossible for any other arrangement than what we have, for now anyway. On the bright side, we try to improve, takes centuries, but, we're inching towards better future, just, it is too far off at this current social snail's pace.

Question: Is this considered a paradox?

Posted: 30 Sep 2014 05:50 AM PDT

The statement is bit unclear. Reworded example - "the only thing interfering with, say my goals or aims, is myself" - is not a paradox when the meaning is properly explained, and proves to be consistent. Case in point - the only thing interfering with my goals, is my immaturity, my naivete, my incompetence, ans similar "my this and that" elements of my views, philosophy, nature.

Instead of a paradox, I would classify it as a play on words. Often we come up with cute sayings which seem contradictory on the surface, but when their meaning is explained, the context becomes clear, becoming a cute cliche over time, yet, when its meaning is preserved in the vernacular it passes into, it nevertheless conveys an actual consistent point transcending the "cute play on words".

Question: Answer in Yes/NO ... did it happen to you? Epiphany?

Posted: 30 Sep 2014 05:26 AM PDT

re: poll - yes. explanation - you did not ask for one hence won't ramble on about it, albeit there is an explanation involving exhaustion of particular centers of the mind which need rejuvenation via focusing upon irrelevant pursuits... still, you didn't ask, so i didn't clarify :)

There is no real proof or anything and they have a lot of info on people involved but they fail to answer questions. I found this out in August and I got somke info but it was all typed up on word documents. they don't answer certain questions and stuff. I have only followed up a few times and now a friends is telling me I am making too much of this and that I am pesturing them, I am in a depression over this I have realized. I know what I knew and the woman completely dropped this information on me and I feel that there is some inconsistently to it,

Question: How can I find my family crest?

Posted: 29 Sep 2014 05:16 PM PDT

This is longer and better written than some answers. Politeness dictates I tell you didn't write it all, just now, just for you.

My source for most of this is
http://college-of-arms.gov.uk
and, in particular,
http://college-of-arms.gov.uk/Faq.htm
It the official College of Heralds for England. Other countries have officials who deal with coats of arms too.

Crests are the top part of a Coat of Arms. See the picture.

A "family crest" or "family coat of arms" is "family" in the sense of "My family estate", not in the sense of "Everyone named Carpenter {Miller, Smith ...} can use it".

Individuals earn or buy a coat of arms. Anyone who is an English subject and of good character can "apply", and I get the sense that, in these days, unless you've robbed a bank, the college of heralds will look favorably on your application, so long as you've included a check. They cost about (US) $7,000.

Note again you have to be
1) English, or at least a subject of the crown. (Australians count; Americans don't.)
2) Of good character. (It helps if you've done something notable.)
3) Willing to part with $7,000.

Once someone has a coat of arms, his eldest legitimate son inherits it. His other legitimate sons are strongly urged to pay the college of heralds to create a variation, or to stop using it. Women and illegitimate sons are too complicated to deal with here.

In most of the English romances or murder mysteries you read, someone is always popping down to the "family" estate for the grouse season, or receiving a note on engraved stationary with a "family" crest at the top, or driving away in a 4-horse coach with the "family" coat of arms on the door. Note again, estate, crest and coat of arms belong to one line of one family, not everyone in the world named "Carpenter" {Miller, Smith ...}. But, that is where the myth of a "family" coat of arms originates.

Over here in the USA, there are companies called "bucket shops". They make their money selling people copies of coats of arms on plaques, coffee mugs and so on. What you get, if your name is, for instance, "Carpenter", is a coat of arms that was once issued to a man named "Carpenter". It isn't yours, unless you are the eldest son of the eldest son ... of the man named Carpenter who got that coat of arms in 1703. The most famous (or notorious) of these bucket shops is House of Names:

Question: Is FamilyTreeDna Autosomal Transfer more accurate than AncestryDNA? ?

Posted: 29 Sep 2014 02:04 PM PDT

I don't think any of us can say which is more accurate. The only thing companies can do is match you with population samples they have. So one company might not have or be deficient in certain population groups another has and vice versa. It has been reported if you go to more than one company the results will vary and I imagine the accuracy has to do with the particular individual they are testing and the population groups in their database. In other words one company might the more accurate for you but not for another person.

I assume you understand though you got your Autosomal 50-50 from both parents and when they passed on the Autosomal they received from their parents to you it went through a process where it was randomly jumbled and recombined. So while you got 50% from your mother's side and 50% from your father's there usually will be a bias in what you inherited from grandmother and grandfather on both sides of the family.. How you inherited any bias will not be how your siblings inherited it unless you have an identical twin. A sibling could have the same test with the same company and he/she for example might have received more Autosomal from Norwegian grandfather and you could have received more Autosomal from a Croatian grandmother. You can get anywhere from 0 to 50% from any one grandparent.

Question: A Filipino girl with the last name Crosby?

Posted: 28 Sep 2014 10:26 PM PDT

Your surname never tells you anything about your ancestry, it is a word and words come from languages and the influence of languages spoken/heard not countries

The word originates from the old Scandinavian language word "kross", (cross) usually a stone cross set up by the roadside or near a settlement, and "byr", meaning enclosure/ settlement. This language influenced many countries including Britain where there are several villages/towns of this name, all this was in place over 1000 years ago well before surname were taken by people and already you can see at least two languages influenced the word, languages travel, it doesn't mean the word tells you where the people came from

Question: Can you give me constructive criticism on this poem?

Posted: 29 Sep 2014 05:17 PM PDT

Can you give me constructive criticism on this poem?

Do you know where I go in deepest nights
Where I cry without tears, sing to myself
Singing the song of a lonely lil' boy
With books to comfort him, high on his shelf
And pillows nearby to speak words of joy
But this is fake, and sad, and he is ill
So he runs, runs to town where he goes and-
Meets a lovely girl with charming skills
But she turns him down, calls him creepy; snides
He cries, but-
At least I'm living life on humans' ride
At least I can love and pick myself up
And see such beauty and stare without slaps
One of these days these girls will say yes
Meanwhile I'll study and not collapse-
Collapse from stress, no, I'll suppress
And I'll work on that diploma and then address-
My lovely little maiden gal
Who I shall turn into my pal

could read that and get some ideas for your poem. Am sure it
will be more like an Epic.

Question: How can I improve my turnout for ballet?

Posted: 28 Sep 2014 09:18 PM PDT

Sometimes you over-tighten your quads from maybe a weekend hike or that special project at work where you went up and down a ladder one day. You can try to roll out with a roller or a basic glass bottle can do the trick in a pinch. It's a little massage to shut off the muscle. Youtube has plenty of examples. There could be a cellular issue like you are living off Raman for the week until your check comes in after paying for ballet class this term and you're not getting the potassium to actually control the muscle. There could be any number of subtle biological issues that are temporary. The fact you said it came on suddenly tells me it's something like this.

When you do get sorted out, there are plenty of exercises to develop turnout. You can ask your teacher or have a wander around Youtube or the web overall. Library books also exist.

Question: Polaroid 600 LMS is draining film battery packs?

That high pitched sound is the on-board electronic flash trying to charge, thus draining your film packs battery.

Unless you are shooting indoors, keep the flash turned off

In Euthyphro by Plato, I have a question that needs an answer?

The main theme in Euthyphro is a question of what is pious and impious. To me Socrates's argument is bit invalid because of the idea of multiple gods debating on what is right. What if there is only one God, how will the answer/argument change on what is decided to be right or not? Put yourself in Socrates's shoes

Question: Pls tell me your opinion about growing up?

Posted: 29 Sep 2014 09:00 AM PDT

I'm quite grown up and I don't experience the feelings you describe. Look into yourself for why this feeling occurs - you can't blame this on age; somehow you've lost the awe and wonder of life and the world we live in. Carefully consider whether or not the idealized notion of "reality" that you espouse is even possible. "Happiness" DOES occur but not as frequently as one would like but, here again, what one considers to be "happiness" can be unrealistic to a degree that it cannot happen.

Look to the ordinary things in life as a means to derive pleasure in your existence - but if you approach all these things with the jaundiced view that none are "really happiness" then the outcome will be as you've forced it to be.

Question: What are your interpreatations of "Nothing"?

what are your interpreatations of "Nothing"?

A question that always boggles my mind is what is nothing? As our minds can only imagine a blank white or black space but that in itself is still something, it has volume, still a colour/shade/tone whatever you want to call it of what we can detect, distance and has to be a shape still although we can imagine it as a infinite stretch but that still must be a shape, i guess it is one of those great prefound mysteries in life that we cannnot comprehend. Despite that, what are your views of "nothing".

Question: Why when people make a mistake there intentions are not important?only there results/consequences is the important and why? Thanks!?

well what someone intended to do does not usually effect the other person. as long as the other person gets what they want, why the hell should they care. i guess. lol

Question: What is love?

Posted: 29 Sep 2014 08:09 AM PDT

to explain the definition of love could take a second or a lifetime, I'll leave you with this quote.

Love is a force more formidable than any other. It is invisible - it cannot be seen or measured, yet it is powerful enough to transform you in a moment, and offer you more joy than any material possession could.
