Question: Matching Movies to Descriptions? Posted: 15 Sep 2014 07:26 AM PDT Match these movies (Star Wars. The Lord of the Rings. Harry Potter. The Epic Characteristics: -A long, narrative poem written in an elevated style -Originally intended to be recited or sung -Includes a character of heroic importance – "larger than life" -The hero embodies the ideals of that particular culture -The subject is a struggle for something significant to the culture -Deities and other supernatural powers intervene in human affairs and aid the hero The Epic Conventions: -Starts in "media res" – in the middle -Contains epic catalogues – very long lists -Contains epic similes – extended comparisons -Contains an address to the host – the leader's stirring speech to rally his troops -The hero makes a decent into the underworld (not always hell can be symbolic) which teaches him a lesson he can learn in no other way – usually about his mortality The Epic Hero: -The hero is introduced in the midst of the turmoil – any back story is introduce through flashbacks -The hero is often a demi-god (half man/half god) but even if not he possesses weapons of size and power passed down by the gods -Whatever the culture most prizes the hero will have in excess -The hero is of nobility -The hero usually meets his nemesis towards the end of the epic to sustain interest. -The hero has a tragic flaw which leads to his downfall

Question: Should i take some music classes at college? Posted: 14 Sep 2014 09:04 PM PDT Most of the introductory music classes are going to be covering the structure and form of classical music from centuries ago. (Orchestras were the 'bands' back then.) The courses will talk about music theory, which can be kind of a 'dry' topic, at least in my opinion. (I happen to be a guitarist and songwriter, but even though I learned some music theory, I don't think I use it much, but maybe a little.) To me, music is indeed kind of a hobby, but I love it and have been at it for 35 years now. (I started playing guitar at age 14). It will always be part of my life. Will I ever make a career out of it? Nope. College music classes won't be talking about Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber or almost any other modern band, put it that way. ~~~~~~~ Taking college courses in music is an entirely different matter, and yes, I do think it would be difficult for a person with no prior musical knowledge.
Question: Need ideas for a character's appearance + love interest? Posted: 14 Sep 2014 06:20 PM PDT It depends whether or not you are going for a fictional/anime feel or not. If you are, I think that you should make her hair a deep purple or a dark blue. If not, I suggest that you give her black or dark brown hair. Otherwise, I would suggest: ·Eyes-either Hazel or Blue ·I think she should have a thinner body, and mostly wear dark coloured and comfortable clothing (i.e. sweat pants, hoodies, etc...) ·I think just to put a twist into the story, her love interest could be the exact opposite of her. Maybe he could be athletic, outgoing, and fun to be around, like a sort of class clown. Alsi he could have a bubbly personality and jis always happy. I hope this helps and good luck with the story
