Question: Manditory Dance Skills ?

Posted: 13 Sep 2014 11:39 AM PDT

There are no actual "mandatory" skills per say, but there are a few that are most frequently used so it is nice to have those skills.

Pirouette
A la Seconde
Aerial
Cartwheel
Splits (Right, Left, Middle)
Grand Jete
Center Leap
Tilt
Extensions.

Hope this helped! :)

Question: The name of this dance training video that you can buy?

Posted: 13 Sep 2014 07:36 AM PDT

I saw a while back a "dance training video" as a commercial and can't remember the name and it kinda bugs me.It had a B in the beginning and I'm pretty sure it had a W in the middle somewhere.
Anyone knows what I'm talking about? If I remember correctly, the moves they did was super simple, like steps in shapes of numbers. Reminded me of Zumba, but looked more simpler.

That's all, thanks.

Question: Starting drill team questions?

starting drill team questions?

Okay so I am 15 years old and I'm currently a sophomore. I want to join the drill team for next year in 2015. I never danced before but I'm going to try and learn everything I need to know before tryouts. What's the first thing I have to work on if I never danced and want to start? I don't have my splits yet. Do I work on that? Then work on high kicks (I'll start low and work my way up). I just need a list of steps (in order) for me to start learning and working on. DO you think I can make the drill team if I start stretching and working on it now? ((Tryouts are probably 6 months away))

Question: Can you start ballet at age of 20?

Posted: 13 Sep 2014 05:23 AM PDT

Recreational ballet is for anyone of any age, size and capability. Find an adult beginner class and get started.

Btw, the term "ballerina" is the title reserved for the top female dancer in a professional ballet company. Most professional ballet dancers never earn that title.

*If by "ballerina "you mean a professional, you have missed the boat on that. Professional ballet careers start at around age 16 and run until the late 20s for most professional ballet dancers. Because of that, you have aged out of professional level training. Professional training is also not available to people who are not born with the right body, facility and musicality that a ballet career requires as they are also screened for that as well as age.

My daughter is a professional dancer. I worked for NYCB (New York CIty Ballet)
