Question: If I only want one role in a ballet production, should I audition?

If I only want one role in a ballet production, should I audition?

At my college, there is going to be a production of the ballet "Sleeping Beauty" in the spring. The auditions are this November. I think it would be a really fun experience being a part of the show. My main issue is that I'm not currently dancing on pointe because pointe caused me foot problems. The vast majority of the dancing roles require being on pointe. There are some roles that are for non-pointe female dancers, but in this category, there is only one role that I want, the lilac fairy. All of the other roles for non-pointe female dancers are primarily acting roles, which I do not want. I'm debating whether it's even worth auditioning if I'd only be happy with one role. What should I do?

Question: How do I tell my parents I want to restart ballet?

This is a continuation from my last question. In brief- I took ballet when I was 8, didn't have any real passion for it so I quit- now I'm 14 and really want to start again.

I'm worried she'll think this is just a passing phase. Lately, I got really into the show Dance Moms, at first because my friend recommended it, but eventually I was more focused on the actual dance performances than the drama. I would watch the performances and think 'I could have done that if I'd stuck with it...'

And I really want to start again. It's been on my mind ages now! But my mum thinks my passion is in drama (which it is for a bit portion of me), and we've been looking at drama classes outside my school ones.

But really, I'd rather go into dance again- but I know my mum would be really suspiscious because I haven't said anything about wanting to go back to it, and I asked if I was any good when I was younger and she was like "nah" so I don't know if I should even be bothering :/

any ideas?

Question: I need a very unique leotard for ballet/ contemporary style of dance for a show . any suggestions of dance clothing websites?

Class-in-Dance http://www.classindanceshoponline.com/
Is a place where you can design your own leotard from component pieces as well as there are some unusual leotards already made up. It may be a bit hard to negotiate this site, but if you spend a little time on it, you will figure it out.

Question: How many days should you dance for?

Practicing dance at home is like practicing swimming without a swimming pool. You don't have the right flooring at home and you don't have teachers there to make corrections. You could be building bad habits by practicing wrong. You could get injured by practice wrong and working on a floor that has no give like a proper sprung dance floor has can cause injury too. So what can you do at home other than stretch? Not much unless you can do some Pilates or yoga at home. See if you can add additional dance classes. If you don't take ballet, you really should as jazz is based off of ballet but just not done using turnout. Many schools require ballet first before jazz because of this. If you add classes you don't need to or should practice at home. Just stretch. Oh... Don't forget to never stretch without first warming up so you don't get hurt.

Question: Why is dance moms on at in the morning?

Posted: 07 Oct 2014 04:23 AM PDT

Sometimes negotiating time slots is a tricky business that leads to everybody having to settle for the 7th choice. If I had to guess why it would be on in the morning as everyone involved first choice would be so that the suburban house wives who just sent all their kids off to school sit home and watch while they have an inclination to think about their kids and their dance classes.

If it were on at 11:00 at night you just got your fill of your kids, stressed over figuring out how to pay for next year's classes and probably a little drunk by then. Watching people yell at kids is the last thing you want to see.
