| Question: How to become a professional commercial dancer? Posted: 26 Mar 2015 04:31 AM PDT In the USA it is done networking in school university/ conservatory BFA dance programs. I imagine it is somewhat similar there. Also attending workshops of choreographers who do this work is a way to get noticed by them and hopefully hired. Once you have worked professionally and have a decent resume, you can look to get a dance agent. Dance agents (legitimate dance agents) will only represent dancers who have already worked professionally. Source(s): My daughter is a professional concert contemporary dancer & choreographer. Ballet academy trained. Dance grad of LaGuardia Arts high school (the FAME school.) Graham & Horton modern trained. Juilliard SI. BFA in dance from NYU Tisch. Currently choreographing major music videos and performing in a world renown concert contemporary company. mintchips49 · 8 hours ago

| Question: Whats a good dance competition for my 10 year old to enter? Posted: 25 Mar 2015 07:27 PM PDT It is harder to find that in NYC as most of the training is not competition dance but more serious professional level training where form trumps tricks. You may be able to find what you are looking for easier in the outer Burroughs. The more suburban the area like Staten Island or Queens the more likely you can find that type of training and therefore competition dance. Btw, all of competition dance is amateur so any you find will do. (The exception being the international ballet competitions.) That being said I do agree whole heartedly with the other answer in regards to getting proper training. Competition dance is not the best training out there and often causes injuries to the students. It is the nature of this dance style to push the child's body in unnatural and unsafe ways. Many of the competition teachers have no real training in regards to the differences in body limitations between their students. |
