| Question: How can I bring my old self back? Posted: 21 Mar 2015 10:35 AM PDT (Complete) I had once the passion for art. I started to draw when I was in my elementary years. I often joined poster making contests and sometimes I won or placed runner up. When I reached in high school, I always was the one chosen to be the representative in school competitions. Then, it goes through college and the last time I had this burning passion for drawing was after joining the competition in my freshman years. I placed second. It made me really happy. I joined later in university publication as a cartoonist until I became a cartoon editor. Before I reached this position, I had some kind of frustration about my talent since when I was in my junior high school when a transferee from another town came in. He won the heart of the many. My spotlight turned on him and everyone knew he was better than me. I always placed second or just right after him. But he became one of my closest friends and I considered him as my best buddy. I resigned with my position as a cartoonist in high school publication because of self-pity. Of course I didn't let anyone knew about it. I always wore fake smiles before everyone and to my bestfriend even though it hurts very badly. So, after I graduated high school, I decided to be better in college and still pursue it. And that's it… I became a cartoon editor. Still, I was not happy 'coz I felt I was not worthy for that position 'coz I knew my newbie co-cartoonist that time was much better than me, just like the days in high school.. So the same scenario~ I resigned after 4 years in publication.. and of course as always been.. I said I resigned because I was so busy with my studies. I tried to hide away my frustration and self-pity about my ability to draw. Then, after that… I suddenly stopped "to draw"…. But I remembered the real reason why I suddenly stopped drawing… as I was on my chair while I was listening to my teacher on my engineering subject.. I was busy doodling or making nonsense drawings on my notebook.. I had a terrible failing grade that time in my exam before it happened.. until something came in my mind.. as I looked at my drawing.. I had thought that it was like a drawing of a preschool kid.. and I thought that I just wasted every page of my expensive notebook who he was without learning received the failing grade. It worsen when I looked at my classmate listening to the teacher beside me who had this very cheap notebook who scored much better than mine.. He passed the exam with his notes on his cheap notebook. So, I made up my mind not to make any doodling or drawings anymore on my notebook 'coz I realized it would not help me pass my exams. Since that time.. until now.. It's almost 6 years after I quit drawing on my notebook.. And my passion for drawing died.. It was not my passion anymore. But everytime I draw, still my natural talent shows. It seems like my drawing tells me not to forget what God has given me.. Everytime I draw, "my drawing" speaks literally on me to draw… to continue drawing… to not forget my ability to draw… Now, after 6 years that I quit drawing, I am now a teacher in public school. I just completed my 1 year in service. So, the journey that I encountered when I was in elementary years draws me back to the happy memories of the past that tells me to share my talent with these talented and lovable kids of mine.. At the moment, I really want to bring my old self back – the one who had the passion for drawing, who feared nothing, who persevered and did not lose hope, who had confident, who accepted learnings… I want to renew my vow as an artist… but right now.. I don't know how to? I don't know how to keep it back again—the burning desire of passion for art.." Can somebody help me how to bring my old self back – my passion for drawing . Thanks. I truly appreciate it. If anyone who has the same experience, you can share it here. Roman Morata III · 58 mins ago
