| Question: Do you have any upcoming auditions for any Disney songs to be sung in movies? Posted: 27 Mar 2015 04:45 PM PDT Not unless you happen to be a very successful singer or voice-over actor already. Disney sometimes hires one (or even two people) to voice the character. If the person can act AND sing, then they do the speaking and singing for the character in the movie. If an actor they choose to do voice can't sing, then another person will be doing the singing voice. In any case, Disney has lots of money and they want to make even more so they will spend what they need to attract the best talent around--which means no amateurs or wanna-bes. You aren't a pro, or you wouldn't even be on this site asking. You would have a long and impressive resume along with a recognized talent agent to find out if they can hook you up to an audition. Often some actors are so popular for voicework (and AGAIN--most of them are already big successes on film and/or stage anyway), that Disney may offer roles to a short list of desired talent. Disney very, very, very rarely would hold open auditions for voice work of any kind in a movie, unless they might need a small child or something unusual (and even then, the child probably has done some sort of professional work even if it's a diaper commercial). Going back to the comment about how Disney has money and likes to make more--in addition to any singers actually singing for the characters in the movie, they very often hire a BIG name singing star to sing a commercial release to be played on the radio or otherwise sold as a single. This version will be a more pop-style of whatever songs are in the movie and usually sung over the end credits. Examples of this would be Judy Kuhn singing as Pocahontas in the movie, but Vanessa Williams doing "Colors of the Wind" for video, radio, etc. Lea Salonga singing "Reflections" in the movie "Mulan", but Christina Aguilera doing the pop version. Lea Salonga (again) and Brad Kane sang the duet "A Whole New World" in the movie, but Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle over the end credits. Peabo Bryson lends his pipes again in a duet with Celine Dion for the title song in "Beauty and the Beast", but IN the movie, the song was sung by movie and Broadway veteran Angela Lansbury who also spoke as well as sang for Mrs. Potts. Just recently, in "Frozen", Idina Menzel (who had the huge breakout success in "Wicked") did both singing and speaking voice for the character of Queen Elsa. Again a pop version was recorded and sung by a singer that Disney felt would appeal to younger audiences--Demi Lovato. Ironically though, Idina Menzel's version turned out to be much more popular. So, while "I" personally would not have any auditions coming up for Disney songs to be sung in movies (since obviously I have nothing to do with the Disney studios)--I pretty much can say that if you have any ideas that you can just post your cover of one of their songs on Youtube and they'll hire you--ain't gonna happen. If anything, being Disney, they would probably make you take down your video on the grounds of copyright infringement. |
