| Question: Personalizing a guitar? Posted: 29 Mar 2015 07:41 PM PDT I am considering customizing a guitar as a gift for friend. Haven't decided whether to use an acoustic or an electric (I have both). The thought I have on this is to strip the finish from the back of the guitar only and using collage (lightest materials possible, probably tissue papers and light drawing papers-all archival, if it matters) and paint, then refinishing the guitar back with the appropriate clear finish over the top of the artwork. My questions are: Is this a viable plan? What effect is this likely to have on the sound of the guitar? Would one type of guitar be better for this sort of thing than the other? My guess is that the electric's sound would be less effected, but the acoustic could be really beautiful, too. Thanks! |

| Posted: 29 Mar 2015 03:10 PM PDT That's an output jack, not an input jack. Your symptoms are definitely characteristic of a grounding issue. Try a different cable to see if the problem is there. If not, try a different amp (or a different guitar with your amp). If it's the cable, replace it; if it's the amp, find an amp tech; if it's the guitar, take it to a guitar tech if you are unable to locate the bad ground connection yourself. Since you recently worked on the wiring, I'm betting on it being the guitar, but strange things happen.
