| Question: How to go between bass clarinet and trumpet? Posted: 23 Mar 2015 06:58 PM PDT So I love playing various instruments, and I can play just about all of them... I usually don't have problems transferring from my primary, trumpet, to my other instruments. Yet, I have recently taken on the task of playing bass clarinet in the lower high school band. Prior to starting bass, I was playing bassoon. When I first picked up the bass, I have been on Bassoon nonstop for about a week. So the transition was very smooth, and I was pretty good at bass. Yet, the spring chair tests are around the corner, and I have to audition both on bass AND on trumpet. Recently, I've been practicing a lot of trumpet, and upon returning to my bass, my embouchure is just completely destroyed. I can't play low notes without squeaking, which wasn't a problem a few days ago. I've never had this problem with other reed instruments (Sax, Soprano Clarinet, Oboe), but bass clarinet is killing me. I love playing the instrument, so i'd like to keep playing this instrument. Any suggestions on how to transition? Thanks in advance! |
