Canon EF 35mm f/2 vs 28mm f/2.8? (non IS)?

I have quite a bit of experience trying the EF 35mm f/2 (non is) lens. I love it for its high sharpness, close min focus distance, and useful field of view on APS-C. I was going to buy one for myself, but I came across the EF 28mm f/2.8 (1987), which is about $100 cheaper. The 28 came out around the same time as the 35mm f/2 and its nearly identical physically, so i was wondering if the 2 lenses were comparable sharpness-wise. I dont have access to try the 28mm f/2.8, and internet reviews are scarce, so here I am consulting yahoo answers...
