Question: Who is the best dance teacher/choreographer online? Posted: 04 Mar 2015 05:24 AM PST No such thing. You cannot teach dance online. How would you get corrections when you do something wrong? Anyone who does online "teaching" is bogus, as a qualified teacher would know that teaching that way is impossible. Not to mention you won't have a sprung or floating floor at home. Working on a floor with no "give" even if you had a qualified teacher's eyes and hands on you for corrections and you will get injured if you put in enough time to attempt to gain any real dance technique. I am not saying you can't learn a specific dance online, but you cannot learn TO dance online. Again proper flooring is an issue. Why not take some real dance classes and learn to dance properly. Copying foot and arm positions doesn't mean that you are doing things correctly. Learning to dance involves learning to engage the right muscles to get you there.
Question: Can I teach myself pointe? Posted: 04 Mar 2015 05:12 AM PST Please don't attempt this. If you attempt this you will get injured. You don't have the proper knowledge ( and not likely the proper flooring either) to do this on your own safely or properly.. Even professional ballet dancers don't work on their own. They stretch at home and take a daily class with the company ballet master/mistress. Your teachers most likely don't teach pointe as they are not qualified to do so. Find other training. As you are 19 or 20 if you really have been training 12 years as real ballet training cannot start until age 7/8, you are old enough to travel and find another place to train. If you are one of those kids who counts training starting at age 2/3 when you can barely walk as a toddler as ballet training and are only 14 or 15, talk with your parents about better training. You should not have bought pointe shoes without a qualified teacher's approval. EDIT: I am sorry if it sounded like I was lecturing you but one of the main reasons I answer here is to help girls from getting injured. I am only interested in your safety. You must realize without a qualified teacher correcting your placement not only will you learn poor form but your chance if injury is greatly increased. Not working on a sprung or floating floor like you would find in a reputable studio and you will get injured even with a qualified teacher's eyes and hands in you for corrections. These are injuries that can haunt you the rest of your life. Please rethink doing this.
Question: Which grade / class of ballet would I most probably be attending? Posted: 04 Mar 2015 03:49 AM PST I am 15+ this year, and I am really interested in ballet. I am currently a dancer with 10years of experience in dance. I am quite flexible and am heavily exposed to chinese dance, which is also a classical dance. I am intending to pursue ballet lessons next year, and I would like to know from those with experience, which grade of ballet would I most probably start at and how do I work my way up to be en pointe? Thankyou
