| Question: Need help on a la seconde turns , tips? Posted: 04 Aug 2016 03:07 PM PDT The problems you are describing indicate that you are not ready for a la seconde turns. You need to focus on the purpose of each exercise you do at the barre. Whereas all of the barre exercises develop your muscles and your turnout, concentrate especially on such things as battement tendue par terre, rond de jambe par terre, développé and grand ronde de jambe en l'air as these pertain especially to the elements needed for tours a la seconde and fouettés (the female version of the men's tours a la seconde). Once you have built the strength and placement necessary you can move away from the support of the barre and learn the turns. I am assuming you are studying ballet. If by chance you are attempting to self-teach you may be able to fling yourself around using momentum, but you will never do them correctly. This is just another reason why ballet cannot be self-taught. |
