| Question: What are the dos and don'ts when performing in a concert or a show (opera, musical, etc.)? Posted: 15 Aug 2016 04:34 PM PDT Follow any directions given to you by the director/conductor. Other than that, respect the venue. If you have to spit out some gum, throw it away in the trash. Don't stick it under a seat or behind the curtain. Any water bottles you may need to keep on hand, need to be in a non-spillable or reclosable container, and kept out of view of the audience (unless there is a small table that has been placed on stage for the purpose- it depends on what kind of concert or show this is. In any case, you want to make sure it is no where anyone would accidentally trip or knock it over. Don't graffiti the bathroom wall-or anywhere else. Respect your fellow performers. When YOU are not singing or speaking lines, but you are on stage, you are STILL performing, so pay attention to what is happening on stage. Do not talk, joke around with others and cause a distraction. Do not pull out your cell phone for any reason--it shouldn't be on you at all unless you are a surgeon on call and must wear a pager set on vibrate. Likewise, watch your actions backstage. It can get very hectic back there with performers and stagehands bustling about. Don't be there unless you need to be to be ready to go on, and keep your voice down and your hands to yourself. Respect yourself. Congratulations, you're in a show! It doesn't matter if you are or aren't the star. Conduct yourself with graciousness and class. Treat your fellow performers with courtesy and kindness even if you don't like everyone. Even in larger cities, community theatres and even professional theatres, musicians, directors, singers, etc. all tend to either know each other or know OF each other. And they talk. You want the talk to be good. If you've done any amount of performing at at level at all, you yourself know of people with a bad reputation for being jerks in some way or another. Most importantly, please have FUN. If you find performing miserable, maybe you need to take up another avocation or vocation. |
| Question: My guitar won t tune right? Posted: 15 Aug 2016 03:30 PM PDT Look over this: http://frets.com/FretsPages/Musician/Gui... The examine your guitar, make sure the strings are seated properly under the bridge pins, go over the saddle correctly, are in their slots in the nut and are wound around the correct tuning peg and properly wound. Hopefully you also have the strings in the correct order. If that is done right, stretch a little a retune. You will likely have to play, adjust, stretch and retune a few times until they settle. |
