marching band camp! I absolutely love it. All of the socializing, unifying musicality, the way techniques are enthusiastically taught, everything. One aspect I can't seem to grasp is when marching, you're to roll your feet? I supposedly 'bounce' and jolt when planting my feet in forward marching. It becomes much harder for me as the tempo bumps up. :( I know you have to keep your toes pointed up as high as you can, but even then, I still bounce and shake, which costs my playing on the field. Is there another technique to keep this from happening or something to think about? Also, backwards marching. I lose so much balance, and I'm worried I'll fall when we have to go faster. They say to glide your feet across the ground and keep heels as close to the ground as possible without making contact, but it seems as though that doesn't work. I'm not sure how to tackle these. I want to progress in this as much as possible and eventually try out for section leader. My director is already impressed with my playing ability, but I want to strive to be better for the band as a whole. Please help me out! It is possible that as much as you love the guitar, it might not be the right instrument for YOU. I recently had a Mom bring me her young daughter for flute lessons; She LOVES the flute - but beyond her cognitive impairments, she also has a severe speech, chewing, and drooling problem - and therefore, I spent an bout a half-dozen lessons with them, and told them that a NON-wind instrument would be far better. WELL!! It was as if I had told them to put their child in a medieval institution! I taught special-needs music education for decades - not just cognitive needs, but physical needs SEPARATE from that class - and the choice of instrument makes all the difference. Perhaps a keyboard instrument would suit you better - it is supported, there is no pressure needed, and you tremor will not interfere. Perhaps Afro-Cuban drumming; I taught drum circles for many years, too,and cajon and djembe players are really cool! And also see if there is a Music Therapist you can see - they will have advice as to what would suit you best, since their are degreed musicians with medical expertise.<p>I greatly admire your perseverance, but also sympathize with your discouragement. DO NOT GIVE UP - just think beyond the guitar. Is BASS possible - or do the same hand issues interfere there, too? There is always Key Bass - playing the bass parts on a keyboard - lots of great sounds to work with, too!</p><p>Write back and let me know if I am steering you well - or if it is *guitar or nothing*.
