| Question: What should I substitute for developer & fixer? Posted: 16 Aug 2016 08:17 AM PDT If you are determining how different pH levels can affect the contrast and density of black and white film, I would use standard D76 as the control developer and add incremental acid and base to increase or decrease the pH. The problem is that acetic acid is actually used as a stop bath, so adding that specific acid to a developer will only destroy the characteristics of the developer Fixer will have NOTHING to do with how the films density and/or contrast is affected. The fixer dissolves the unexposed emulsion leaving just the elemental silver suspended in the emulsion. Instead, I would choose all of the current commercial developers and take pH readings of each and then compare the development times for each of those developers. Alternative developers can be found on the links below. After mixing them, record the pH of those developers as well. Just use your favorite search engine to find more on non-traditional developing chemistry |

| Question: What are the benefits of converting from normal electricity to prepaid electricity? Posted: 16 Aug 2016 06:34 AM PDT The best solution for many is to switch to a billing program from your local power supplier which is based upon the time of use hours Typically the hours from 1900 hours to 1200 hours is off peak. From 1200 to 1900 hours is considered on peak. Perhaps the most viable way to reduce your energy costs is to use a programed thermostat so that the use of your heating/AC or heat pump is centered around the off peak power usage times |
