| Question: A Question about Ethnicity and DNA tests.? Posted: 12 Aug 2016 12:42 AM PDT Of course Ever heard of the Russian Empire? Ever heard of the U.S.S.R.? Nationalities are not racial sub groups. Nations are a modern invention and as such every single nation includes a diverse group of people. No nation is so inbred as to have a consistent DNA. |
| Question: What do the surnames Womack and Wagner mean? Posted: 11 Aug 2016 08:35 PM PDT Wagner is simply the German word for 'Waggoner' or carter - someone whose job was to transport goods by cart. Womack is something of a puzzle. It comes from Eastern England - East Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Norfolk - but it's meaning isn't definitely known. As that area had quite a lot of settlement from the Netherlands in the late Middle Ages, it has been suggested that it comes from the Middle Dutch word 'walmacke' meaning 'twig' and was a nickname for a thin person. But that's only a guess; nobody really knows. |
