Question: U.S. History Question? Posted: 11 Aug 2016 07:49 AM PDT I am reading U.S. History for Dummies and in a short biography of Sir Walter Raleigh they say, "In 1584, Raleigh established a colony in what's now Virgina." But then in a different part of the book they say, "In 1587, Walter Raleigh....sent a group....to what is now North Carolina. They called their colony Roanoke." How come it first says it was established in 1584 and then it says 1587? How come in the first part it says Roanoke is part of present-day Virginia, then it says North Carolina? No rude answers please...thanks!
Question: Favourite/most interesting period of history? Posted: 11 Aug 2016 07:37 AM PDT the 20th century. During that century, we saw the last gasps of feudalism in Europe and representative forms of government take hold. We say the results of European colonialism. We had the rise and fall of power in different parts of the world. A small Island nation took over much of what touches the Pacific, and was defeated and driven back home. We saw two huge European wars caused by completely different reasons. We saw communication go from pony express to handheld electronic devices. We saw transportation move from horses to supersonic airplanes. We saw how evil humans can be. And, we saw people fight that evil. (thinking Hitler). Communism rose and fell and then transformed into...Well, we don't yet really have the full results of that. There was a cold war that dominated and shaped the world. We invented a weapon that can destroy civilization on the planet. Aids. Terrorism. TV was invented and deployed. The computer.. The 20th century was huge.
Question: World war 1 question? Posted: 11 Aug 2016 07:35 AM PDT Did the Balfour Declaration and the Sykes-Picot Agreement contradict each other? Or was it just the deal between Sir Henrey Mcman (Don't judge spelling) and Hussein and the Sykes-Picot Agreement? No rude answers please! Thanks!
