| Posted: 31 Jul 2016 04:04 PM PDT Mintchips has nailed it. This is typically the way this sort of injury manifests itself, and as a dancer you have to be aware of your body. Injuries are not all sudden and traumatic. The more insidious injuries develop over time. You have to address this immediately because if you don't within a very few years you will find yourself unable to walk without pain and that will get worse as you get older. The first thing you must do is see a doctor for diagnosis. Typically a doctor will want to do x-Rays first to see that your bones have not been damaged. My guess is that the bones are fine but the problem lies with the soft tissue (tendons and ligaments) and these only show up with more expensive tests such as an MRI. Of course he will tell you to stop doing whatever is causing the injury. This means stop dancing. It takes a minimum of six weeks for soft tissue just to begin to heal. At this point a good physical therapist will be beneficial and may prescribe treatments such as hydrotherapy or ultrasound to help the healing process. When finally you have healed you need to protect yourself from recurring damage. You will have to change studios (no matter how "awesome " your teacher is, no matter how "awesome " a dancer she says you are) . Find a studio with a proper sprung or floating floor and a more knowledgeable teacher who will protect her students from working in a dangerous manner. Sorry, I know this is bad news, but you've only one body and as a dancer you demand a lot from it. You have to protect it so that it will last you the duration. |
