| Question: What's the deal with PRS? No one seems to carry them anymore? Posted: 07 Aug 2016 09:09 PM PDT I have only seen real PRS Guitars in YouTube videos and once in a guitar center where I used to live. They had 12.....TWELVE!! Like what the **** lol. But every guitar center I've been too has wall to wall les Pauls and strats. There used to be a selection of used esp Ibanez and Jackson guitars. As well as new along with schecter. But today I went to collect my guitar from the guitar tech for repairs. And I saw literally nothing but les Pauls and strats. With no variety at all other than color. There was one Flying V and one explorer, one ML and like 6 semi hollows. But 50 each of les Pauls and strats in every flavor. With like 3 teles in the middle. So I'm like wtf happened to those 12 PRS guitars I saw, I mean they were asking 2-5 grand for each of em so I know no one bought them as that corner where they were literally collected dust. And I'm sad to see this kind of thing translate to all guitar shops not just guitar center. I've been to pawn shops and Sam ash and others and it's the same story. I'm like where's the variety?? I get it, the les Paul and strat are the best guitars around but what about the underdogs? But here's my question? Are all these companies going under or is guitar center and the rest playing it safe and only carrying what ppl buy the most often? Like is PRS going to be bankrupt in the next 10 years? Seems ever since the 30th anniversary everyone has been downplaying them. At any rate, I can't justify buying one just on spec and not trying one?? |
| Question: Should I buy a saxophone in an antique shop? Posted: 07 Aug 2016 02:19 PM PDT My guess is that if they were reputable brand instruments in playable condition, their former owner(s) would have been able to sell them to a music shop or to a private musician and make more money, instead of selling to an antique shop. I've occasionally seen guitars, banjos and mandolins in antique shops and they're invariably no-name brand instruments in horrible, unplayable condition, whose only selling point is that they look really old. But just because they're old doesn't make them "vintage" or antique or particularly valuable. Antique dealers don't necessarily know anything about musical instruments. I wouldn't waste my time with antique-shop finds. Go to a reputable music store and buy a playable instrument from a dealer who will stand behind their products. |
