Arts & Humanities: Dancing: “Question: Am I too old to start taking dance lessons?” plus 3 more

Question: Am I too old to start taking dance lessons?

Posted: 19 Aug 2014 11:03 AM PDT

Nope not at all...I started dancing at 31 and just getting ready to start year 7. Look up local dance schools on the internet and then CALL them, websites can be out of date. Ask for either a teen or adult beginner class in the style you want to do and see what they have to offer, if you want to perform ask about recitals.

Question: Getting back into dance after a long summer?

Warm up and then do some gentle stretching. Perhaps some pilates or yoga classes. Taking a break once a year is not a bad idea and the Mariinsky Ballet students (formerly Kirov,) tells their students not to dance for a whole month. You will be fine and everyone will be in a similar situation going back to dance as you are. You will be surprised how quickly it will all come back. Don't worry so much. Make sure you fully warm up before any stretching.

Question: North Carolina school of the arts dance chances? Please answer someone?

I have been deeply considering this. I want if more than my own dance team. I don't want to new professional even though it would be nice. I just have no true desire to be under a contract with a company where your spot is not very promising.

I have over 14 years of dance experience with only a few of those years in Recreational when I was first starting out. I want a certificate or degree to teach dance.

I just want to know liniant this program is for those who do not want to go professional just earn a certificate? I see they have that option as it's on the site.

I emailed them and told them I wanted to do contemporary dance but however, I'm not in point anymore due to knee issues and back surgery I got 7 years ago. I just don't want to push anything concerning my health so I decided not to do pointe. How do you think that will hurt my chances?

What are not other opinions?
