Question: What would a suitable title for our story?

What would a suitable title for our story?

A friend of mine and I are writing a role play/fanfiction together and we are having trouble selecting a title.
There is obviously more to the story, but here is the basic storyline:
The two main characters have been secretly attracted to each other but start to show their feeling toward one another. They are very resistant and are somewhat at war. They finally succumb to the tension and pursue each other. The woman eventually strays in fear of getting too close. She realized she is unhappy with the new guy and tries to leave to be the first man.... The new guys becomes jealous and physically/mentally violent. The first man saves the day but doesn't fully accept her apology, he makes her work for it. After she falls into a state of deep depression he finally realizes how sorry she is and.... Y'know, sappy stuff.
So, that's the story in a nutshell.
If anyone has any ideas on what to name it, please leave an answer. We probably won't use the exact title but something similar.

Question: How to tune a violin?

Posted: 25 Aug 2014 08:23 PM PDT

You cannot tune a violin the way you tune a guitar. The strings are not as heavy, and turning of the pegs needs to be incremental. Also, you have to use an excessive amount of force to break a fine tuner, especially since strings are more likely to break or pop out of the tailpiece (if they are ball-end strings) first because the string metal is weaker than the fine tuner metal. Are you sure it wasn't a peg you broke? Still an excessive amount of force, but I see it happen much more often.

Tuning a violin is something you have to be taught, in person, and you have to know how to play a violin before you can tune it. Generally, a violin with stable strings will stay close enough to in-tune over the course of a week that your teacher can tune it for you during lessons and that be all it needs. Even my adult students who have previously played other string instruments are strictly told up front not to tune their own instrument until I teach them to do it, which is usually after several months or even a few years of lessons. If there are no violin shops around and you are having issues with pegs slipping, I am assuming this was a violin you ordered online? Those are junk, the parts do not handle tension as well, and breaking a fine tuner on one of those makes a whole lot more sense. The fact that you needed "peg resin" (actually peg drops, since PEG resins are a class of chemical compounds containing polyethylene glycol and have nothing to do with violins) is a major red flag that your instrument is not worth whatever you paid for it. Beginners commonly get scammed trying to save money. Peg drops and compounds are for violins that are older and have experienced some wear and weather affecting the friction at the peg holes. New violins should NEVER need them unless it just simply is not a properly constructed violin. Using them on a violin that does not need them, or using too much, can cause the peg to swell and stick if it is that kind of compound, or make the slipping worse if it is the other kind. You have to buy violins in person, from a reputable violin shop. That means you need to find a violin shop, which is probably located in the nearest major metropolitan area, and buy a violin there. Before you do that, though, you need to find a violin teacher. You cannot learn the violin on your own, and you certainly should never try to tune or repair a violin without proper instruction. Violins are so fragile that doing so is kind of like performing surgery without a medical degree. It always results in costly and sometimes irreparable damage.

Question: Why are curses all sexual? And further, because of this, are they really insulting at all i.e. often refer to desired things.?

Posted: 25 Aug 2014 08:06 PM PDT

Probably because most were derived from private words that no one normally publicly mentioned. But, some people consider offensive terms to be curse words to, some that have nothing to do with sex or generally private areas.
Just my guess, but since no one used them, they just became slang terms used to offend or joke with someone and caught on overtime.

Question: Senior project ideas?

Posted: 25 Aug 2014 05:46 PM PDT

Before deciding on your subject matter, figure out which mediums are your favourite to work with. Choose something that you know you are good at and also that you ENJOY using, try not to experiment with anything new unless you know you have the talent or patience to pull it off.
Think about whether you want to use digital media or conventional methods. There is plenty of materials and art forms for you to choose from that will allow you to show case your artistic talents.
I haven't started mine yet but I will tell you some of my ideas.
As I am good at drawing the human face and figures I lead pencil, I have already decided that this is what I will need to focus on.
Then I have taken my interests (this will be ideal if you want it to be good, you need to be passionate
. DONT JUST DO WHAT YOU THINK WILL GET YOU GOOD MARKS.
I will be doing portraits and somehow I would like to combine historical costume and baroque, traditional style. I want to create something that looks at both the contemporary young person and their ancestors/personal heritage.
I did say I wanted to stick traditional and use oil paint, however this may not be a good idea as I haven't had heaps of practice and obviously I am no Rembrant. I will stick to what I know, pencils

Do some sketches or construct an idea on Photoshop if you aren't a confident drawer. Develop your ideas through experimentation.
