Arts & Humanities: Dancing: “Question: Modern dance or ballet?” plus 4 more

Question: Modern dance or ballet?

Posted: 26 Aug 2014 11:21 AM PDT

I go to a dance school once a week for about an hour. I have been doing "jazz/ballet" lets call showlevel, which really has just turned into a class (which is 2 parts) one semester we will learn a hip hop and then the next ballet. (So if you get my point, it's not actually committed.)

I now want to choose between ballet and modern. Or should I do both and quit showlevel. I have heard that they compliment eachother. Also that you should start ballet first.
I have a lot of other activities- acting, violin, karate.
I am 14 and the ballet class has 10 year olds in it, soo... I don't think my mom would let me go someplace else just for ballet. What should I do?

Question: What should I do?

My dear selfish child, I realize $300 may not look like a lot of money. After all, it's only a 3 and a couple of 0's, right? Reality is, mom doesnt have the money and you dont have a job. Ever heard of cleaning homes/babysitting/yard work/garage sales/car washes etc. There are PLENTY of ways you could've raised this money on your own without stressing your mom about it. Cheering is an added bonus to your life, not a priority. If you cant come up with the money, it's okay. There are other inexpensive hobbies to adopt: library books are free and you can work on becoming the next valedictorian! Church sports teams (usually free-if you go to church). See if someone you know has an instrument you can learn, maybe join the yearbook club....there's so much more to life. Maybe look into getting a job at chic-fil-a when you're 15. I think they hire at that age. Or even grocery stores or family owned companies. Then maybe you can prevent stressing your mom out about paying for cheer gear every year.
