Question: Can I change my last name?

If you are 18 you may petition the court and pay the fees, if the court allows the name change then you will have to notify numerous government agencies as well as you medical, dental and vision providers, but Family Court Services should provide information on that.
This is a legal issue not a Genealogical one .

The name meant young unmarried man or a knights' squire and was an occupation or characteristic identifier, and was used in the UK. like Smith, Hooper and Fletcher, it then became a surname. The word bachelor has old French origins
