Arts & Humanities: Philosophy: “Question: Existential thinking?” plus 5 more

Question: Existential thinking?

A big a$$ bug, slap buzzed my ear, I was standing next to a pole. It decided to brush me, instead of pole. Six inch clearance was tight fit (for a quarter sized body). Guess it thought I was softer and fluxerd me.

Guess the existentialism is encountered when I contemplate how much it thought about the incident... compared to my reflection.

Question: If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake?

You could make the mistake of drinking cyanide and you'd learn that you were about to die. Not every lesson people want to hear. Knowledge is power but instincts, our desire for self preservation, will always be more powerful. With mistakes there is a risk of getting hurt and some people are too scared to cross that line. I don't want it to sound like we should keep some knowledge away from people, it's just that people don't always want to learn every lesson, ignorance is bliss.

My opinion- take it with a grain of salt.

Question: Would you rather sacrifice your liberty for your security, or your security for your liberty?

Would you rather sacrifice your liberty for your security, or your security for your liberty?

If I had to choose, I would sacrifice security be fore liberty. As long as I am free, I can probably provide my own security.

Question: What make you or will make you happy?

What makes you or will make you happy?

Happiness is an attitude of mind, born of the simple determination to be happy under all outward circumstances. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything they just make the most of everything that comes their way. Love and joy is an emotional experience, not a activity necessarily.

I have been working on my personal mental attitude for many years and have gotten a good hold on it. I choose to have a positive mental attitude and I almost always feel happy.

The greatest discovery of my generation is that we can alter our life simply by altering our attitude of mind. We cannot change our past. We cannot change the fact that people act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. This will help us manage life's constant barrage of changes.

The greatest day in your life and mine is when we take total responsibility for our attitudes. That's the day we truly grow up. Attitudes are a secret power working twenty-four hours a day, for good or bad. It is of paramount importance that we know how to harness and control this great force.

Our attitudes control our emotions. Our emotions control our lives. We control our attitudes.

Question: What is the EVOLUTIONARY purpose of SUICIDE? Is it a mechanism to DISCARD the people who can't adapt to their environment and challenges?

What is the EVOLUTIONARY purpose of SUICIDE? Is it a mechanism to DISCARD the people who can't adapt to their environment and challenges?

Interesting question. I wonder; if people had never heard of suicide, if it were not as pervasive in the world as it is, when they get these chemical imbalances in their brains, would they still kill themselves? Is it just depression, or is there an evolutionary trigger that makes them want to end their life?

I am thinking that the survival instinct is embedded in our DNA and when the chemistry in our brains is totally out of whack, the survival instinct is not only shut-down, but reversed. Not a built-in evolutionary trigger, but simply a malfunction.

Question: Is the statement--life is both easy and hard--a pardox or something else?

Posted: 15 Aug 2014 05:22 AM PDT

NO more of a paradox than "algebra is hard" - hard until you "get it" and easy once you do. Life is hard because we expect and persue things that cannot be had; once we "get" this idea and develop more realistic expectations, it becomes easy ( and MUCH more pleasant).
