Arts & Humanities: Performing Arts: “Question: How can I learn to love myself?” plus 4 more

Question: How can I learn to love myself?

Be yourself and do what interests you, without worrying about falling into trends and that kind of thing.

Be forewarned though, one big problem with out generation is not that we love ourselves too little, but that we love ourselves too much.

Question: Is there a difference in the way impressionist music and romantic music are played?

Posted: 10 Sep 2014 07:27 PM PDT

I have a piece by Charles Griffes: The fountains of acuqa paola, in his 'Roman Sketches'. I know that the time period for the "impressionist" era and the Romantic era overlap, and that some part overlaps with modern time period, however, do the stylistic characteristics for the impressionism period side more with the Romantic, or the modern.

So which side of the romantic/modern era is it usually interpreted as?

Update : this is a performance; how is the piece usually interpreted; which performing* characteristics do performers usually use when playing an "impressionist" piece..?

Question: Good Broadway solo & ensemble numbers?

Good Broadway solo & ensemble numbers?

I have a Broadway Cares revue going on at my school. I really want to be one of the few selected for a solo song. I was thinking of "Fly Fly Away" from Catch Me if You Can, but I'm not sure of it anymore, so I'd like some suggestions for that. I'm a mezzo-soprano if that helps at all. I've also been asked to possibly direct an ensemble number for this too. I'm not sure if I want to, because I can't really think of anything. So, I would like suggestions for that too. As long as it's not too hard to manage, I think I'ld be willing to direct a number. Thanks! :)

Question: Beginner acoustic guitars?

Buy from your local music stores NOT from a big box store like wal-mart etc. You can get a nice starter pak for between $150-$250 that includes a good steel string acoustic, a gig bag, an electronic tuner, and some accessories for that one price. Check into brands like Epiphone, Fender, Ibanez, Washburn, etc.
While you are at the local music store, look into lessons with a local teacher. This is the easiest, fastest, and best way to learn quickly. A good qualified local instructor can show you the correct way to play and keep you motivated.

Question: Are you really "doing good/fine"?

Posted: 10 Sep 2014 05:20 PM PDT

Yep! Top of my game musically, in great financial shape - and most important - married to the love of my life for 41 years. We perform together and with colleagues, travel a great deal c domestically and internationally, and continue to play the music for love at the places we love. Every day, we give thanks that we have this life - and we contribute to those less lucky than we are. Pinch me.
