Question: Anxiety making me feel discouraged to do follow my dreams...? Posted: 01 Sep 2014 09:25 PM PDT I suggest you to try this three-point program: 1. Face your fears: Find out what you are most afraid of and face it. For instance, if you are afraid of talking in front of big crowds, practice a speech, first by yourself, then on video tape, then to your friends, and then in the public. Or join a theatre club. You will learn a lot about yourself, every fear you face will make you stronger and more confident. 2. Rethink your dreams and goals. Are you sure that being a star or an actress is really what you want? Could you / do you want to handle the pressure, the competition, the very long workdays, the time spent alone in a hotel, surrounded by strangers and false friends that just want your money? Being photographed and and talked about all the time, being criticized for everything that you say or do? Or is this only the dream of your friends or your idols, and you are in fact dreaming of being a star because you are trying to be someone else than yourself? Are you maybe following these dreams because you don't know yourself? 3. Be yourself and forget the rest: Stop comparing yourself with others and do what YOU want to do. Not what your friends, or your relatives, or your boyfriend want to do, or want you to do. This is probably the hardest thing in the world because we are surrounded by people, politicians, and companies who know exactly what they want and who will dictate our desires if we let them do it. Comparing yourself with others, or doing what others want you to do will make you unhappy and more anxious. Instead, forget the others, follow your very own dreams (ok make sure you can make some money with those, otherwise -> hobby). If you don't know what your real dreams are, try as much as you can: Visit university classes (nobody will notice), libraries, exhibitions, read biographies of actresses, artists, scientists, engineers, housewives, bank robbers, talk to people you think have interesting professions, but also those with "uninteresting" professions, take language classes or learn to play an instrument, paint, juggle, plant trees, do dogsitting, or whatever. You need to find out what you like. These skills will make you confindent and positive. Good luck.
Posted: 01 Sep 2014 08:33 PM PDT First - Barbizon is NOT AN AGENCY. It is an acting school - generally over priced school that doesn't have a good reputation in the industry. Second - you can't just go out and hire an agency used by most famous people. And agencies at that level only take clients by referral - which means someone they already know and trust who knows your work has said you're good and they should talk to you. You only need an agent if you're going to try to work professionally and professional acting is a business. And it involves a lot more than just getting an agent. If you want to try to work professionally - talk to your parents. They HAVE to be involved in any career you attempt. They'll need to do the work and the research to learn the business end of acting so that they can help make good decisions about your career. (Like how to avoid Barbizon.) There are a lot of scams and rip offs out there. The best way to protect yourself is to have you and your parents research and learn the realities of attempting a professional career. It's not like most people think. Agents don't discover you and give you a career or anything like that. Here are a couple of websites that your parents (and you) can look over: http://www.backstage.com/topics/kids/ A couple of articles to check out: "Make Sure Your Child Wants to Act for the Right Reasons" - http://www.backstage.com/advice-for-acto... "How to Determine If Your Child Is Ready to Be a Professional Actor" - http://www.backstage.com/advice-for-acto... While your parents learn about the industry, you can focus on learning and growing as an actor. Hopefully you want to get an agent because you love acting (and not because you want to be famous - that's a very bad reason for wanting to be an actor). So find opportunities to act. Take acting classes, audition for what you can - school plays, community theater, church shows and the like. Make sure that you actually like the work of acting and that you're good at it. Good luck.
Question: Auditions for Last Of Us? Posted: 01 Sep 2014 08:23 PM PDT Auditions for Last Of Us? I'm actually interested in playing a role for the Last Of Us movie but I don't know like where or how to audition so if anyone knows anything about that?
Question: From New Jersey to Ole Miss? Posted: 01 Sep 2014 07:57 PM PDT From New Jersey to Ole Miss? I'm highly considering attending ole miss but I'm concerned if I will fit in since I'm from the north. I love football, I dress preppy, and I love country music. At ole miss I plan to join a fraternity and play club lacrosse.
