Question: Does anyone know if guitar kit world is good?

Posted: 06 Sep 2014 08:20 PM PDT

I just had a look at the site and the kits look comparable to those available from other retailers, but they're overpriced. Are you in the US? If so, I'd recommend having a look at the kits available from a site called Guitar Fetish. Since guitar kits generally contain very basic components, there's a good chance you'll want to customize your guitar either before you put it together or afterward. Guitar Fetish is a great place to buy guitar parts, in general, and especially pickups. So if you decided to buy a Telecaster-style guitar kit, but wanted a weightier bridge to increase sustain or pickups that had more growl than traditional Tele pickups, you could swap out the kit bridge and pickups for some higher-end ones.

If you want to get into guitar building, starting with a kit is the absolute best thing you can do. In my experience, the kits are pretty comparable from one seller to the next, so I assume most of them are mass produced in Asian factories and sold under different brand names (or no brand names). They're a great way to learn about guitar building, though, and I've played some great guitars built from kits. I'll post a link to Guitar Fetish. It's also worth having a look around eBay, since there are many guitar kit sellers there who offer free shipping. And if you're patient and know what you want, you can get some fantastic bargains on eBay. I've paid less than half the buy-it-now price for auction guitar parts/kits that end at odd hours or during holiday weeks when people aren't paying attention to their eBay watch lists.

Question: How to combat nerves due to a solo?

How to combat nerves due to a solo?

I got my first flute solo ever and I'm incredibly nervous. It's insane. And the concert is in December and I am already freaking out. I'm confused as to why I'm nervous because it's literally 6 notes, 2 measures in length and I know the notes, it's just a matter of hitting them (I am not the hottest at high F). I should do good, I mean I've been playing since sixth grade and I'm in eleventh I just get so nervous. Nervousness is a brand new concept to me. It just popped up this year. Like I had my circle of fourths scales tests last week and i was shaking the class before because i knew i had band next. Then i went in band and i was a wreck. (but hey i got a 97 so i guess i did alright) It's bad. I need to know different methods of calming myself because I'm nervous all the time I do something, no matter how small. What can I do to calm my nerves?

Question: Side effects of blowing flute?

I've been playing for six years and my neck is perfectly normal. No swelling. However, make sure you're careful holding the flute because sometimes if you rest your hand wrong, it'll become habit, and my friend's friend did that and now suffers from nerve damage due to wrong holding. Hope you pick up flute, it's fun and good for you(:

Question: What should i name my bass guitar?

Posted: 06 Sep 2014 05:17 PM PDT

You could name her... "Mystery" :D That's the child in me simultaneously referencing Spongebob and Scooby Doo. Both the sea horse and the van are green, haha. Sorry.

Um... You could name her Sarah? Sarah Winchester was a famous historical figure. The wife of the inventor of the Winchester Rifle. She built the famous Winchester mansion... Anyway, it could be a reeeeeally loose connection to your Supernatural character? Dean Bass>Dean Winchester>Sarah Winchester. I'm getting carried away, haha.

Why not just name her Whinny?
I love naming my guitars, but not all of them are female.

Anyway, hope my lame ideas can help get your ball rolling :)
